WHO WE ARE

SHF Mission

Our mission and mandate, stemming from the National Department of Housing (DOH), to which we are accountable, is to develop a vibrant and sustainable social housing sector for South Africa.

Central to this goal, SHF creates credible social housing institutions (SHIs) and simultaneously develops housing capacity.

We deliver expertise, products and services grounded in our knowledge of the challenges impacting the South African social housing environment; with consideration to the ever-changing macro socio-economic reality.

Our work benefits the subsidized housing market and low-to-moderate income families, encouraging:

• Consistently well-managed housing
• Affordable quality living environments
• Integrated, empowered communities
• Collective ownership and secure tenure
• Inner-city regeneration and urban area densification
• Wider consumer choice

The SHF is a member of the Ethics Institute of South Africa to show its dedication to a vision of building an ethical South Africa.

The SHF is a Section 21 (non-profit) company set up in 1997 in collaboration with the Department of Housing in accordance with the Housing Amendment Act of 1999.
