Data SourcesThe Community Survey (CS)The Community Survey is a nationally representative, large-scale household survey conducted by Statistics South Africa. It provides demographic and socio-economic information such as the extent of poor households, access to facilities and services, levels of employment/unemployment at national, provincial and municipal level. Sample Size for 2007: 246618 Households The General Household Survey (GHS)The General Household Survey is an annual survey which collects information on a variety of subjects including education, health, the labour market, dwellings, access to services and facilities, transport, and quality of life of South Africans. The survey is conducted by Statistics South Africa. Sample Size for 2007: 29280 Households The Income and Expenditure Survey (IES)The Income and Expenditure Survey was conducted by Statistics South Africa between September 2005 and August 2006 (IES 2005/2006). The survey gathers detailed data on expenditure based on the diary method of capture and was the first of its kind to be conducted by Stats SA.
